New Zealand’s leading contractor in protective coatings services.
The TBS Group is a Gold Member of the Australasian Corrosion Association and an accredited coatings contractor under the Painting Contractors Certification Program (PCCP). We have extensive experience in all aspects of the field, with operations spanning over 45 years and significant industry knowledge and experience.
Our protective coatings services are undertaken throughout New Zealand, and our extensive range of mobile plant allows us to carry out field operations anywhere in the country.
We have a very extensive range of cleaning and preparation equipment from standard air abrasive blasting, UHP water jetting through to specialist power tools
TBS operates a purpose built abrasive blasting and painting facility in New Plymouth. This facility is located on a 10 ha site, with two grit rooms, five paint shops, and a specialist thermal metal spraying facility. In total, the factory facility covers over 2,500m2 and has the capability to handle any sized project.
A number of our Managers, Supervisors, Blasters and Painters are either NACE or ACA qualified coatings inspectors, providing peace of mind to our clients that quality is “built in” throughout project planning and execution.
Fire Proofing & Fire Protection
TBS has more than 20 years of experience in supplying a wide range of fireproofing and fire protection products including:
For exterior application of fire protection to steel requiring rating, TBS is an approved applicator of
- Thermo Lag,
- Fendolite MII;
- and Pyrocrete 241 for petrochemical plants;
as well as most single pot intumescent paint coatings used in commercial buildings.
These materials allow TBS to provide the necessary fire resistance ratings to structural steel, roof systems, and ship bulkheads. In addition, TBS can upgrade the fire ratings of concrete slabs, partitions, and air conditioning duct work.
TBS has many years of experience in pipe wrapping of smaller diameter pipes in our Taranaki factory. We regularly carry out field wrapping of field welds on all line sizes, this service generally also includes the internal coating of the weld which could be cementitious or organic materials such as epoxy.
TBS has considerable experience with penstock recoating having completed multi-million projects such as the replacement the external protective lead based coating on the three penstocks that feed into the Tuai power station in Waikaremoana; and the internal coating of the Poatina Penstock in Tasmania and six penstock internal relines at Roxburgh.
We have a specialist team that typically completes two to three penstock internal relining’s or internal repairs per annum, most of which are on the Waikato River.
The quantity of work we have performed in this specialised area has allowed us to invest in equipment that provides safe access within the penstock and automates some of the processes allowing work to be executed safely and efficiently.
Metal Spraying & Thermal Spray Coating
TBS provides specialist metal thermal spraying services for various clients in both the public and private sectors. We have significant experience in the application of thermally sprayed aluminium, particularly at Refining New Zealand and have completed a variety of other metal spraying projects on the Auckland Harbour Bridge, for the Auckland Council and Creative Systems. TBS use both arc and flamespray techniques. The resultant coatings can be thicker than coatings applied using other systems such as electro plating. Thermal spraying can be used as a thermal barrier coating, as well as for corrosion protection, and to replace worn material. TSA or thermal spray aluminium coating is commonly used to prevent corrosion under insulation on steel equipment in refineries and TBS have extensive experience in this application.
